Mercury Levels in Sediment, Water and Selected Organisms Collected in a Coastal Contaminated Environment: The Marano and Grado Lagoon (Northern Adriatic Sea, Italy)

چکیده
Mercury (Hg) is a global pollutant capable of bioaccumulates/biomagnifies along the trophic chain and posing concerns for organisms humans. The historical mining in Idrija (NW Slovenia) more recent activity chlor-alkali plant (CAP) sited Torviscosa (NE Italy) causes diffuse Hg contamination Marano Grado Lagoon (MGL, northern Adriatic Sea, Italy). Despite importance fishing aquaculture local inhabitants, knowledge content MGL fish still scarce fragmentary. This paper reports results obtained from collection sediments, water, biota during implementation WFD/2000/60/CE. solid phase characterised by high concentrations (up to 7.4 mg kg−1) with net positive gradient moving eastward, but chemical speciation suggests prevalence cinnabar (not mobile) species. mobility attested low found surface waters. often exceeds limit set commercialization (0.5 kg−1 ww), especially basin, its variable depending on size habits Although there was significant linear relationship between THg sediment tissues Chelon auratus, values accumulation factor (BSAF), which were always less than one, suggest that bioavailable transfer low. Additionally, Target Hazard Quotient (THQ) calculated C. auratus’s daily consumption showed adverse effects human health are out question at least basin.

Natural Recovery and Planned Intervention in Coastal Wetlands: Venice Lagoon (Northern Adriatic Sea, Italy) as a Case Study
The goals of conservation and sustainable use of environmental ecosystems have increased the need for detailed knowledge of ecological evolution and responses to both anthropogenic pressures and recovery measures. The present study shows the effects of natural processes and planned intervention in terms of reducing nutrient inputs in a highly exploited coastal lagoon, describing its evolution o...
متن کاملHarmful Algae Records in Venice Lagoon and in Po River Delta (Northern Adriatic Sea, Italy)
A detailed review of harmful algal blooms (HAB) in northern Adriatic Sea lagoons (Po River Delta and Venice lagoon) is presented to provide "updated reference conditions" for future research and monitoring activities. In the study areas, the high mollusc production requires the necessity to identify better methods able to prevent risks for human health and socioeconomical interests. So, an inte...
متن کاملTrophic Conditions in the Waters of the Venice Lagoon (Northern Adriatic Sea, Italy)
Data on nutrient concentrations and environmental parameters, recorded in the waters of the entire Venice lagoon (165 sites) in July 2003 and in two stations monthly sampled for two years (from April 1994 to March 1995 and from January to December 2005), are reported in order to compare the trophic conditions with the past situation. In summer 2003 the dissolved inorganic nitrogen varied betwee...
